The Let's Ride ATV/UTV Club, formerly of Keystone and Hill City, has voted to remove Keystone from it's name. It will now be known as the Let's Ride ATV/UTV Club of Hill City.
The general membership, at a meeting on March 3rd, unanimously voted to pull out of Keystone entirely and will no longer participate in any Keystone events. The club's Holy Terror Day events have been rescheduled to September 15th, and are tentatively planned to take place in the Nemo area.
This action is in deference to the attitudes expressed by Keystone residents and the Keystone Town Board regarding ATV usage in the community.
In a related action, the club also voted to join the Hill City Chamber of Commerce and will help promote Hill City as a favorable destination for off-highway users. In discussion preceding the vote members expressed opinions that the community attitude toward ATV and UTV riders was favorable in Hill City and that access to trailheads was not an issue there.
The Hill City Chamber of Commerce, which already sells USFS trail permits, will now distribute trail maps and other information to off-highway users as provided by the club. The club members also directed its president to discontinue discussions with the Keystone Chamber of Commerce regarding ATV and UTV promotion.
This move followed actions taken in recent months by the Keystone Town Board at the behest of citzens who want to discourage ATV use in the town of Keystone. Most recently the town board voted to ban ATV's from Nelson Avenue in Keystone, a public street, at the request of residents there. These are the same residents who convinced the town board to discourage any trailhead or ATV trailer parking areas in Keystone. The town board also approved a resolution opposing the use of FS 353.2B as access to trails near Keystone.
The club also voted to consolidate our web content to the South Dakota ATV web site at the link listed below. All of the content formerly here will appear on the new web site.
